From a multi-point lasering pattern to arbitrary lasering patterns

Updated: Feb 27, 2019

The possibility of multi-point laser generation by digital lasers is obtained from the simulation of intra-cavity light field oscillation. The next step is to generate a laser output of arbitrary pattern from a multi-point laser output.

Multi-point laser pattern and a "TW" pattern was composed of multiple dots

Since the laser cavity has diffractive optical elements, Spatial Light Modulator (SLM), in the cavity, the digital laser system has the capability of instantaneously modulating the output laser light field. The scholars who proposed the original concept of digital lasers demonstrated experimental results of using digital laser in generating several types of laser modes with analytical solutions.

Can a laser field of specifying light field distribution be generated from a digital laser?

I asked myself this question, and the question inspired me to conduct this research.

Starting from the generation of a multi-point light field:

Any light field can always be seen as a superposition of multiple point light fields.

Therefore, we started the study from verifying the feasibility of generating multi-point light field in digital laser by numerically simulating the optical field oscillation in the resonant cavity.

Next, constructing an arbitrary distributed light field by multi-point light field superposition:

The feasibility of generating specifying light field distribution in digital laser is also verified by numerically simulating the optical field oscillation in the resonant cavity. The detail of this study can be found in the published paper, Laser Phys. 28, 075801.
